Summer in the Philippines:
An Earnest Photo Dump

After over two years of not being able to, I came home to the Philippines. To say that I returned as a different person feels like a gross understatement: in those two years I had been gone, I had gotten married, closed my business, gotten pregnant, carried my child to term, gave birth, nourished my child with my own body.

Here are some photos I took from that 2-month trip. Some are from my film camera (my favorite way to document as of late), and the rest are from my phone and digital camera.

It was strange, being in my old room, strewn with artifacts of my past life, my younger self—right next to my sleeping husband, and near the window, my baby’s crib.

We went on road trips & quick getaways &
skateboarding sessions (of course)

We took a quick weekend trip to El Nido. 👉🏼

Coming home was like taking a big gulp of air after holding my breath for over two years. There is, truly, no place like home.

I’m in a phase in my life now where I’m having to confront my childhood experiences, reexamine generational traumas, in order to reimagine what family means to me as I build my own.

And the story continues to unfold.
